Computer Camps - Leadership Program

Program Assistants - "Doing
the Right Thing, Even When No One is Watching"
Campers who are entering 10th grade or higher after camp, and who
have completed at least one session at Emagination in the past, may
be asked to apply to be a Program Assistant. Potential PAs are invited
to participate in the fall each year for the upcoming summer. The
program is selective and the number of positions limited. Program
Assistants must be able to attend two overnight sessions.
PAs play an important leadership role and are responsible for assisting
in the delivery of Emagination's program to all its campers. PAs are
positive role models and are held to high standards. Campers look
up to the PAs as our older more mature campers.
PAs are a separate group at camp who participate in a teen leadership
program that involves responsibilities, dedicated curriculum and special
privileges. They take two technology workshops, a dedicated PA Workshop
and become a teaching assistant in a workshop of their choice during
their second session.
The dedicated PA Workshop is a highlight of the program. It is designed
to provide valuable benefits including improved social skills and
new life skills. In an interactive environment with lots of fun role
playing, PAs learn useful skills such as: meeting and speaking to
people; making friends; managing conflicts; teaching and influencing
people; planning activities and managing their time. The four week
curriculum spans nearly 30 hours and includes basic skills such as
how to properly shake hands, make eye contact and address people and
more subtle and advanced skills such as techniques useful in carrying
on difficult conversations and resolving interpersonal conflicts.
PAs have responsibilities to the camp community that include helping
with login/logout, escorting campers and running events during Emagination’s
new Color Wars recreation program. The PAs elect Captains of their
group who act as liaisons to camp leadership staff. PAs are special
at camp and have privileges that include a dedicated PA Lounge in
the dorm, an off-campus weekend trip, the latest bedtimes, dorm room
keys and more free time to spend with fellow PAs and campers. PAs
can go to sleep at night, feeling good about their camp experience
and knowing that they have helped other campers enjoy their time at
Emagination.
PAs who successfully complete the program receive a certificate and
are eligible for a college or employment letter of recommendation
from Emagination's Executive Director. Participation in the program
may also qualify for community service credit at the PAs school.
The PA Application Process
Potential PAs will be invited to apply in the fall each year, to be
a PA for the upcoming summer. In the invitation letter, you will receive
a URL link to the PA application. Candidates will fill out the application
online. The application will ask you to select up to three areas in
which you have an interest in assisting. Candidates receive a decision
on their application within two weeks of having turned in a fully
completed application.

Hi, I'm Ben! I'm a PA
at the Atlanta camp; this will be my second year. I'll be assisting
workshops in animation, which I first learned here at Emagination.
I animate in a frame by frame, anime style drawing, and I prefer
to write funny short videos and have fun with my talent. I'm
looking forward to another great summer with the other PAs and
campers. |
