Leadership Program
Program Assistants - "
Doing the Right Thing, Even When No One is Watching"
Campers who are entering 10th grade or higher after camp, and who
have completed at least one session at Emagination in the past,
may be asked to apply to be a Program Assistant. Potential PA's
are invited to participate in the fall each year for the upcoming
summer. The program is selective and the number of positions limited.
Program Assistants must be able to attend two sessions.
PA's play an important leadership role and are responsible for assisting
in the delivery of Emagination's program to all its campers. PA's
are positive role models and are held to high standards. Campers
look up to the PA's as our older more mature campers. PA's who successfully
complete the program receive a certificate and are eligible for
a college or employment letter of recommendation from Emagination's
Executive Director.
PA's become teaching assistants in one workshop and take two other
tech workshops along with a recreation workshop. PA's are assigned
a counselor mentor and participate in the same teaching skills training
that Emagination's counselors receive. During these leadership workshops,
PA's will have time to learn and practice skills like public speaking,
how to handle conflict resolution, and how to organize and implement
successful group activities. Yes, this is serious learning, but
we do it in a way that many PA's tell us that it is the best part
of camp.
Additional responsibilities bring additional privileges. PA's enjoy
the same privileges and activities as other Gigabyte Campers and
also receive additional "perks" such as free time once per session
to relax in the dorms with your other PA friends and participation
in a special night out with counselors and fellow PA's. The PA program
is all about developing the leader within yourself. PA's can go
to sleep at night, feeling good about their camp experience and
knowing that they have helped other campers enjoy their time at
Emagination.
The PA Application Process
Potential PA's will be invited to apply in the fall each year, to
be a PA for the upcoming summer. In the invitation letter, you will
receive a URL link to the PA application. Candidates will download
and fill out the application. The application will ask you to select
up to three areas in which you have an interest in assisting. Candidates
obtain two references from people other than family or camp staff.
References may include teachers, employers, supervisors while volunteering,
or family friends. Candidates complete an essay describing their
interest and qualifications. Candidates receive a decision on their
application within two weeks of having turned in a fully completed
application.
